What is it used for?
Ondansetron is used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting, including nausea and vomiting related to medical treatments or surgery.
How does it work?
It blocks serotonin signals in the body that can trigger nausea and vomiting.
How to take/use it
Use exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Do not change the dose or duration, and follow the instructions for the specific dosage form supplied.
Common side effects
Headache, constipation, diarrhoea, dizziness and tiredness.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about any heart rhythm problem, liver disease or allergy to ondansetron. It may rarely affect heart rhythm, especially in people with certain heart conditions or low potassium or magnesium levels. Tell the doctor about all medicines being used, particularly medicines that affect heart rhythm or serotonin. Do not use with apomorphine unless specifically advised by a doctor.
