What is it used for?
Rabeprazole is used to reduce excess stomach acid and treat acidity, heartburn, acid reflux (GERD) and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It may also be used with antibiotics to help treat Helicobacter pylori infection, when prescribed.

How does it work?
It is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks the acid-producing pumps in the stomach, thereby reducing stomach acid and relieving acid-related symptoms.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Follow the prescribed timing and duration, and do not stop treatment early without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain and gas.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, repeated vomiting, vomiting blood or black stools. Inform the doctor about liver disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being taken. Prolonged or repeated use may require medical monitoring, as it can affect magnesium or vitamin B12 levels and bone health. Seek medical advice if diarrhoea is severe or persistent.
