What is it used for?
Rabeprazole is used to reduce excess stomach acid and treat acidity, heartburn and acid reflux. It may also be prescribed for stomach or duodenal ulcers and as part of treatment for Helicobacter pylori infection, when directed by a doctor.

How does it work?
Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It reduces the production of acid in the stomach, helping relieve symptoms and allowing acid-related irritation or ulcers to heal.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. It is commonly taken before food, according to the prescribed instructions. Do not stop a longer course without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain and gas may occur. Seek medical advice if side effects are severe or persistent.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being taken. Seek medical advice for unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, persistent vomiting or severe abdominal pain. Long-term use should be monitored by a doctor because it may affect vitamin and mineral levels and increase the risk of certain infections or bone fractures.
