What is it used for?
Pyrazinamide is used with other medicines to treat active tuberculosis (TB), including TB affecting the lungs or other parts of the body. It should not be used alone for TB.

How does it work?
It is converted inside TB bacteria into an active substance that helps stop their growth, particularly in certain conditions where TB bacteria survive.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed as part of the full TB treatment regimen. Do not skip doses, stop treatment early, or change the dose without medical advice. The treatment schedule and duration must be decided by the doctor.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach discomfort, joint pain, and increased uric acid, which may trigger gout. Liver problems can also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, gout, kidney problems, or regular alcohol use before starting treatment. Liver function and other tests may be required. Seek medical advice promptly for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe tiredness, persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, or unusual joint pain. Take it only under medical supervision and with the other prescribed TB medicines.
