What is it used for?
Pyrazinamide is used with other anti-tuberculosis medicines to treat active tuberculosis (TB), especially during the initial phase of treatment. It should not usually be used alone.

How does it work?
It is converted inside tuberculosis bacteria into an active substance that helps kill or control them, particularly in acidic areas of infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, together with the other TB medicines in the treatment regimen. Do not stop treatment early or miss doses unless advised by the doctor. Do not self-medicate with this medicine.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach discomfort, joint pain, and increased uric acid levels. It may rarely cause serious liver problems.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, gout, kidney problems, regular alcohol use, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Liver function and other tests may be needed during treatment. Avoid alcohol unless the doctor advises otherwise. Seek medical attention for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe tiredness, persistent vomiting, or severe abdominal pain.
