What is it used for?
Povidone-iodine 10% is a topical antiseptic used to clean and help prevent infection in minor cuts, wounds, abrasions and burns. It is for external use only.
How does it work?
It releases iodine, which destroys many types of bacteria, viruses and fungi on the skin.
How to take/use it
Use on clean, dry skin as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other sensitive areas. Do not swallow it, and wash hands after use unless treating the hands.
Common side effects
Mild stinging, skin irritation, redness or dryness may occur. Stop use and seek medical help if a severe rash, swelling or breathing difficulty develops.
Precautions
Do not use if allergic to povidone-iodine or iodine. Ask a doctor before use on large or deep wounds, serious burns, broken skin over large areas, or for prolonged periods. People with thyroid problems, and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, should seek medical advice before use. Keep out of reach of children.
