What is it used for?
Povidone-iodine 7.5% is an antiseptic used on the skin to help clean minor wounds, cuts and grazes and reduce germs before certain medical procedures.
How does it work?
It slowly releases iodine, which kills or reduces many types of germs on the skin, including bacteria and fungi.
How to take/use it
For external use only. Use on the skin exactly as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other sensitive areas, and do not swallow it.
Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, redness, dryness or itching may occur. Stop use and seek medical help if a severe rash, swelling or breathing difficulty develops.
Precautions
Do not use if allergic to povidone-iodine or iodine. Seek medical advice before use on large areas, deep or serious wounds, burns, or for prolonged periods. Consult a doctor before use in people with thyroid problems, those taking lithium, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and in infants. Keep out of reach of children.
