What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 5% is a topical antiseptic used to help prevent or treat infection in minor cuts, grazes, and superficial wounds. It may also be used to disinfect the skin before certain procedures, as directed.

How does it work?
It gradually releases iodine, which kills many types of bacteria, viruses, and fungi on the skin.

How to take/use it
For external use only. Clean the affected area and apply as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes. Do not swallow.

Common side effects
Temporary skin irritation, redness, dryness, or staining may occur. Stop using it and seek medical help if signs of an allergic reaction develop.

Precautions
Do not use if allergic to iodine or povidone iodine. Avoid repeated or prolonged use, application over large areas, or use on deep or extensive wounds unless advised by a healthcare professional. Seek medical advice before use in infants, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if there is thyroid disease. Seek care if the wound is deep, badly burned, worsening, or not healing.
