What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 5% is a topical antiseptic used to clean minor cuts, grazes and wounds and help reduce the risk of infection.
How does it work?
It releases iodine, which kills or inactivates many bacteria, fungi and viruses on the skin.
How to take/use it
For external use only. Clean the affected area and apply the product as directed on its label or by a healthcare professional. Do not swallow it, and avoid contact with the eyes.
Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, redness, itching or dryness may occur. Stop use and seek medical help if signs of a serious allergic reaction develop.
Precautions
Do not use if allergic to povidone iodine or iodine. Avoid applying it to large areas, deep wounds or severe burns unless advised by a healthcare professional. Use cautiously with thyroid disease, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and in newborns. Seek medical advice if the wound is deep, extensive or does not improve.
