What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 5% is a topical antiseptic used to help prevent or treat infection in minor cuts, grazes, superficial wounds and minor burns. It may also be used to disinfect the skin before certain procedures, as directed by a healthcare professional.

How does it work?
It slowly releases iodine, which kills or inactivates many types of bacteria, viruses and fungi on the skin.

How to take/use it
For external use only. Apply to the affected skin as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Avoid contact with the eyes and do not swallow it. Clean the area first if needed and allow it to dry.

Common side effects
Temporary stinging, redness, itching, dryness or skin irritation. Stop use and seek medical advice if a severe rash or swelling develops.

Precautions
Do not use if allergic to povidone-iodine. Avoid repeated or prolonged use over large areas, deep wounds or severe burns unless medically advised. Consult a doctor before use if there is thyroid disease, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or in young children. Keep away from the eyes and mouth.
