What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 5% is an antiseptic used to help prevent or treat infection in minor cuts, wounds, grazes and burns. Use it only for the purpose stated on the product label.
How does it work?
It releases iodine, which kills many types of bacteria, viruses and fungi on the skin.
How to take/use it
For external use only. Clean the affected area and use the product as directed on the label or by a healthcare professional. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other sensitive areas. Do not swallow it.
Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, redness, dryness or itching may occur. Stop use and seek medical help if a severe rash, swelling or breathing difficulty develops.
Precautions
Do not use if allergic to povidone iodine or other iodine-containing products. Avoid prolonged or repeated use over large areas, especially in people with thyroid problems. Seek medical advice before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or on deep, extensive or serious wounds. Keep out of reach of children.
