What is it used for?
Nimesulide is used for short-term relief of acute pain, inflammation and fever, such as body pain, muscle or joint pain, and painful conditions.

How does it work?
It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine (NSAID). It reduces the production of substances that cause pain, swelling and fever.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably with or after food. Do not take more than recommended or use it for longer than advised. Do not combine it with other painkillers or NSAIDs unless directed by a doctor.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, indigestion, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache and skin rash may occur. Abnormal liver function tests can also occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical advice and for the shortest appropriate duration. Avoid it if there is liver disease, a history of stomach ulcer or bleeding, severe kidney disease, or allergy to NSAID painkillers. Avoid alcohol while taking it. Seek medical help for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe stomach pain, black stools, breathing difficulty or a serious skin rash. It is generally avoided during the last three months of pregnancy and should be discussed with a doctor during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
