What is it used for?
Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation and overactive immune reactions. It may be prescribed for severe allergies, asthma flare-ups, autoimmune or other inflammatory conditions, and certain serious medical conditions under specialist supervision.

How does it work?
It reduces the release of substances that cause inflammation and suppresses excessive immune activity.

How to take/use it
Use exactly as prescribed. If taken by mouth, take it with food to reduce stomach upset. Do not change the dose or stop treatment suddenly, especially after prolonged use, unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Indigestion, increased appetite, difficulty sleeping, mood changes, facial swelling, fluid retention, increased blood sugar and increased susceptibility to infections may occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision. Inform the doctor about diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, osteoporosis, glaucoma, mental health conditions or an ongoing infection. Dexamethasone can mask infection symptoms and may interact with other medicines. Seek medical advice for signs of infection, severe mood changes, vision problems or unusual swelling.
