What is it used for?
Ampicillin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and other parts of the body. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Use ampicillin exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share it with others or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to ampicillin, penicillin, or related antibiotics. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, or a severe rash. Inform the doctor about kidney problems or a history of antibiotic-associated severe diarrhoea. Contact a doctor if diarrhoea is severe or persistent.
