What is it used for?
Povidone iodine ointment is an antiseptic used to help prevent infection in minor cuts, grazes, wounds and burns.
How does it work?
It releases iodine, which kills or reduces many types of bacteria, viruses and fungi on the skin.
How to take/use it
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Avoid contact with the eyes and do not swallow it.
Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, redness, dryness or itching may occur. Stop using it and seek medical help if signs of a serious allergic reaction develop.
Precautions
Do not use if allergic to iodine or povidone iodine. Avoid prolonged or repeated use over large areas, deep wounds or severe burns unless advised by a healthcare professional. Seek medical advice for deep, heavily bleeding or infected wounds, or if healing does not improve. Use during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in people with thyroid problems only after medical advice.
