What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, throat, sinuses, lungs, skin, or urinary tract, when the bacteria are susceptible to it. It does not work for viral infections such as common colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Reconstitute the dry suspension exactly as directed on the pack or by a pharmacist. Shake well before each use and measure each dose with an oral syringe or measuring spoon. Use it only as prescribed and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not use leftover antibiotic.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, headache, and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, or certain penicillin-type antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney disease or previous antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Keep the reconstituted suspension and discard it according to the product label.
