What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, lungs, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.
How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Swallow the tablet with water, preferably with food. Do not skip doses or use leftover antibiotics.
Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache and skin rash may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is an allergy to cefpodoxime, penicillins or other cephalosporin antibiotics, or if there is kidney disease. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
