What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, lungs, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall.
How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed. For a DT tablet, disperse it in water as directed on the product label and take it immediately. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share or reuse leftover antibiotics.
Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, headache and skin rash may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins or penicillin-type antibiotics, and about kidney disease. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe skin rash or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use antibiotics only when prescribed.
