What is it used for?
Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections, including some infections of the lungs, skin and soft tissues, and infections caused by resistant bacteria. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and survive.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Take each dose at the prescribed time and swallow the tablet with water. Do not skip doses or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, and changes in taste may occur. It may also reduce blood cell counts, especially during longer treatment.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about all medicines being used, especially antidepressants or other medicines that affect serotonin, and medicines for high blood pressure. Blood tests may be needed during treatment. Inform the doctor promptly about unusual bruising, severe or persistent diarrhoea, numbness or tingling, vision changes, or repeated nausea and vomiting. Use only under medical supervision, particularly if treatment is prolonged.
