What is it used for?
Zopiclone is a prescription sleeping medicine used for the short-term treatment of insomnia, including difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.

How does it work?
It enhances the activity of certain calming chemicals in the brain, helping reduce brain activity and promote sleep.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed, usually shortly before bedtime. Use it only when enough time is available for a full night’s sleep. Do not take more than prescribed or use it for longer than recommended.

Common side effects
Drowsiness or tiredness the next day, bitter or metallic taste, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, and reduced alertness or coordination.

Precautions
Avoid alcohol and do not combine it with opioid pain medicines or other medicines that cause sleepiness unless specifically advised by a doctor. Do not drive or operate machinery if drowsy or less alert. It may cause dependence, so do not stop regular use suddenly without medical advice. Tell the doctor about breathing problems, sleep apnoea, liver disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or a history of alcohol or medicine dependence. Seek medical help for unusual sleep behaviours, severe breathing difficulty, confusion, or allergic reactions.
