What is it used for?
Azithromycin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, ears, chest, skin and other parts of the body. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making essential proteins, which prevents them from growing and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by a doctor. Shake the suspension well before each dose and measure it with a proper measuring device. Follow the prescribed schedule and complete the course unless advised otherwise. Do not use leftover antibiotics or share them with others.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and headache may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics, liver problems, or a history of abnormal heart rhythm or QT prolongation. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, a fast or irregular heartbeat, or signs of a serious allergic reaction such as swelling or breathing difficulty.
