What is it used for?
Azithromycin 500 mg is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including some infections of the chest, throat, ears, skin and sexually transmitted infections. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed, at the recommended times, and complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Do not share it or use leftover antibiotics. Follow the product instructions about food and tell the doctor or pharmacist about other medicines being taken.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, vomiting and headache may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is an allergy to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics, liver disease, heart rhythm problems, a prolonged QT interval, or low potassium or magnesium levels. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, fainting, a fast or irregular heartbeat, severe skin reactions, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
