What is it used for?
Azithromycin 250 mg is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including some infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, chest, skin and sexually transmitted infections. It does not work against viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed by a doctor, at the recommended times, and complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Do not share leftover antibiotics or use them for a future illness. Follow the product or prescriber’s instructions about taking it with food.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, vomiting, indigestion and headache.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is an allergy to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics, liver disease, an irregular heartbeat or a history of heart rhythm problems. Tell the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially medicines that can affect heart rhythm. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, a fast or irregular heartbeat, severe rash, swelling or breathing difficulty.
