What is it used for?
Levofloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs, sinuses, urinary tract, skin and other parts of the body. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills bacteria by blocking enzymes they need to copy and repair their genetic material.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food. Take it at least 2 hours before or after antacids or supplements containing aluminium, magnesium, iron or zinc. Do not take more than prescribed.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness and difficulty sleeping.

Precautions
Use only on medical advice. Tell the doctor about tendon problems, nerve disorders, seizures, heart rhythm problems, kidney disease, diabetes or a history of severe antibiotic reactions. Stop the medicine and seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, numbness or tingling, severe mood or behaviour changes, fainting, irregular heartbeat, severe or persistent diarrhoea, or signs of a serious allergic reaction. Avoid driving if dizzy or having vision problems.
