What is it used for?
Ceftriaxone with tazobactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin, blood and other body tissues, when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
Ceftriaxone kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Tazobactam helps protect ceftriaxone from certain enzymes made by bacteria, allowing it to work against some resistant bacteria.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given as an injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or nurse. The dose and duration depend on the type and severity of infection, age, kidney and liver function, and medical advice. Do not self-inject or stop treatment early unless advised.

Common side effects
Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site; diarrhoea; nausea; rash; and changes in liver test results may occur. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to ceftriaxone, penicillins, cephalosporins or other antibiotics. Inform the doctor about kidney or liver problems, gallbladder problems, a history of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Use only when prescribed; antibiotics do not treat viral infections. Report severe or persistent diarrhoea during or after treatment.
