What is it used for?
Cefoperazone with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin and soft tissues, bones and joints, or blood, when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
Cefoperazone kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps cefoperazone work against bacteria that produce enzymes capable of weakening certain antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or trained healthcare professional. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney or liver function, and medical advice. Complete the prescribed course unless the doctor advises otherwise.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash, itching, and pain or irritation at the injection site may occur. Changes in liver test results can also occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a serious allergy to cefoperazone, other cephalosporins, penicillins, or related antibiotics without medical advice. Tell the doctor about liver disease, bleeding or clotting problems, kidney disease, or medicines that increase bleeding risk. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for the period advised by the doctor after the last dose, as cefoperazone may cause an unpleasant reaction.
