What is it used for?
Water for Injection is a sterile liquid used by healthcare professionals to dissolve or dilute medicines that are given by injection. It is not a treatment by itself.
How does it work?
It acts as a sterile solvent or diluent to prepare certain injectable medicines. It has no therapeutic effect on its own.
How to take/use it
Use only as directed by a doctor, nurse or pharmacist to prepare a compatible injectable medicine. It must not be injected directly into a vein or muscle on its own, and it is not for drinking.
Common side effects
No side effects are expected when it is correctly used to prepare a compatible medicine. Direct injection on its own can cause serious harm, including destruction of red blood cells.
Precautions
Use only under trained healthcare supervision. Check compatibility with the medicine being prepared and follow the medicine’s instructions. Do not use if the container is damaged or the liquid is not clear. Usually intended for single use; discard any unused portion safely.
