How does it work?
Cholecalciferol is vitamin D3. It is converted into an active form in the body, which improves calcium and phosphate absorption and helps maintain bone strength.
How to take/use it
Take only as directed by a doctor or pharmacist, as 60,000 IU is a high-strength dose. Swallow the tablet with water; taking it with a meal may help absorption. Do not take extra vitamin D or calcium supplements unless advised.
Common side effects
Usually well tolerated when used as directed. Excessive intake may cause nausea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, weakness, increased thirst or frequent urination.
Precautions
Inform the doctor if there is kidney disease, kidney stones, high calcium levels, or a condition such as sarcoidosis. Avoid prolonged or repeated high-dose use without medical advice. Seek medical help if severe nausea, vomiting, confusion, unusual weakness, or excessive thirst or urination occurs.
