What is it used for?
Vildagliptin 50 mg + metformin 1000 mg is used with diet and exercise to control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Vildagliptin helps the body release insulin when blood sugar is high and reduces the release of glucagon. Metformin lowers glucose production by the liver and helps the body use insulin more effectively.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or after food, to reduce stomach upset. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain or discomfort, vomiting, gas, headache and dizziness may occur. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or certain other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, pancreatitis, heavy alcohol use, or any planned surgery or contrast-dye scan. Kidney and liver function may need monitoring. Seek urgent medical help for severe or persistent abdominal pain, unusual weakness, difficulty breathing, or signs of a serious allergic reaction. Avoid excessive alcohol. Take medical advice during severe vomiting, diarrhoea or dehydration.
