What is it used for?
Used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin. Pioglitazone improves insulin sensitivity, while glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed and with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the extended-release tablet whole; do not crush, chew or split it. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Low blood sugar, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, weight gain and swelling of the legs or feet.

Precautions
Watch for signs of low blood sugar such as sweating, shaking, dizziness, hunger or confusion. Tell the doctor about kidney, liver or heart problems, swelling, heavy alcohol use, or a history of bladder cancer. Seek urgent medical help for severe low blood sugar, severe weakness, breathing difficulty, unusual muscle pain, or marked swelling. Blood sugar, kidney and liver function may need regular monitoring.
