What is it used for?
Omeprazole reduces excess stomach acid. It is used for acidity, heartburn, acid reflux (GERD), and some stomach or duodenal ulcers. It may also be used with other medicines to help treat certain stomach infections or prevent ulcers when prescribed.

How does it work?
Omeprazole blocks the stomach’s acid-producing pumps, reducing the amount of acid released into the stomach.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as directed by a doctor or as stated on the package. Swallow the enteric-coated capsule whole with water; do not crush or chew it. It is generally taken before food. Do not stop a prescribed course without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea, constipation, and gas.

Precautions
Tell a doctor about other medicines being taken, especially blood thinners, certain HIV medicines, or medicines requiring stomach acid for absorption. Seek medical advice for difficulty swallowing, persistent vomiting, unexplained weight loss, vomiting blood, or black stools. Long-term or repeated use should be monitored by a doctor, as it may affect vitamin B12 or magnesium levels and bone health.
