What is it used for?
This prescription injection is used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin and soft tissues, blood, bones or joints. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ceftriaxone kills bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps ceftriaxone work against some bacteria that can resist certain antibiotics.

How to take/use it
It is given by a doctor or nurse as an injection into a vein or muscle. The dose and duration depend on the type and severity of infection, age, and kidney or liver function. Complete the prescribed course unless the doctor advises otherwise.

Common side effects
Pain or swelling at the injection site, diarrhoea, nausea, rash and changes in blood tests may occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to ceftriaxone, penicillins, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea, or allergies. Seek medical help urgently for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
