What is it used for?
Tranexamic acid is used to reduce excessive bleeding, especially heavy menstrual bleeding. It may also be prescribed for certain nosebleeds, dental procedures, surgery or other conditions where a doctor needs to control bleeding.

How does it work?
It helps prevent blood clots from breaking down too quickly, allowing bleeding to stop more effectively.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor and swallow the tablet with water. Do not take it for unexplained bleeding or use it for longer than advised. The dose and duration depend on the cause of bleeding.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and headache may occur. Seek medical help for sudden vision changes, chest pain, breathing difficulty, or painful swelling in a leg.

Precautions
Tell the doctor before use if there is a history of blood clots, kidney disease, vision problems, or irregular menstrual bleeding. Medical advice is important during pregnancy or breastfeeding and when using medicines or contraceptives that may increase the risk of blood clots.
