What is it used for?
This medicine helps remove excess salt and water from the body and is used to reduce swelling or fluid retention related to conditions such as heart failure, liver disease or kidney problems. It should be used only when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
Torsemide increases urine production, helping the body remove excess fluid. Spironolactone also removes fluid while helping the body retain potassium.

How to take/use it
Take it by mouth exactly as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day. It may increase urination, so avoid taking it close to bedtime unless directed otherwise. Do not change the dose or stop it without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist and do not double the next dose.

Common side effects
Increased urination, dizziness, low blood pressure, dehydration, weakness, nausea and changes in blood potassium or sodium levels. Spironolactone may also cause breast tenderness or enlargement.

Precautions
Regular blood tests may be needed to check kidney function and electrolytes, especially potassium. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, low blood pressure, high potassium or Addison’s disease. Avoid potassium supplements and potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised. Inform the doctor about use of blood-pressure medicines, other diuretics, painkillers such as ibuprofen, or lithium. Seek medical help for severe dizziness, fainting, very low urine output, confusion, or an irregular heartbeat.
