What is it used for?
Torsemide 10 mg + spironolactone 50 mg is used to remove excess salt and water from the body and reduce swelling (oedema), commonly in conditions such as heart failure. It may also be prescribed for fluid retention related to liver or kidney problems, only when directed by a doctor.

How does it work?
Torsemide and spironolactone are diuretics (water tablets) that help the kidneys remove extra salt and water through urine. Spironolactone also blocks the action of a hormone that causes salt and water retention and helps retain potassium.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day if possible. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Because it increases urination, follow the prescriber's instructions about fluid intake and monitoring.

Common side effects
Increased urination, dizziness, low blood pressure, dehydration, weakness, nausea, and changes in blood potassium or other body salts. Spironolactone may also cause breast tenderness or enlargement.

Precautions
This medicine requires monitoring of kidney function, blood pressure, potassium, and other electrolytes. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, liver disease, dehydration, low blood pressure, or high potassium levels. Do not use potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised. Inform the doctor about all medicines, especially ACE inhibitors, ARBs, other diuretics, NSAID painkillers, or lithium. Seek medical help for fainting, severe weakness, confusion, very low urine output, or an irregular heartbeat.
