What is it used for?
Ticarcillin with clavulanic acid is a prescription antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin and soft tissues, bones or joints, and bloodstream, when caused by susceptible bacteria.

How does it work?
Ticarcillin kills bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall. Clavulanic acid blocks certain bacterial enzymes that can otherwise make ticarcillin ineffective.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to penicillin, ticarcillin, clavulanic acid, or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, bleeding problems, or previous antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, persistent or bloody diarrhoea, or unusual bleeding.
