What is it used for?
Ticagrelor is an antiplatelet medicine used with prescribed treatment to help prevent harmful blood clots and reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke in people with acute coronary syndrome or a previous heart attack.

How does it work?
It stops blood platelets from sticking together and forming clots by blocking the P2Y12 platelet receptor.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food. Take it regularly and do not stop it without medical advice, as stopping suddenly may increase the risk of a heart attack or clot. If a procedure or surgery is planned, inform the doctor or dentist.

Common side effects
Bleeding or bruising, shortness of breath, headache, dizziness, nausea and diarrhoea.

Precautions
Seek urgent medical help for heavy or unusual bleeding, black stools, vomiting blood, or sudden severe headache. Tell the doctor about any bleeding disorder, past brain bleeding, liver disease, planned surgery, or use of aspirin, blood thinners, painkillers such as ibuprofen, or other medicines. Do not take it without medical advice during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
