What is it used for?
Tranexamic acid injection is used by healthcare professionals to prevent or reduce excessive bleeding, including bleeding during or after surgery, after injury, during childbirth, or in some cases of heavy menstrual bleeding.
How does it work?
It helps keep blood clots from breaking down too quickly, allowing bleeding to stop more effectively.
How to take/use it
This medicine is given slowly into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and duration depend on the cause and severity of bleeding, kidney function, and the treatment plan. It should not be self-injected.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache, and low blood pressure if injected too quickly. Rarely, blood clots, seizures, or vision changes may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about any history of blood clots, kidney disease, seizures, blood in the urine, or problems with colour vision. Seek urgent medical help for chest pain, sudden breathlessness, painful leg swelling, seizures, or changes in vision. Use during pregnancy only when specifically recommended by a doctor.
