What is it used for?
Tranexamic acid is used to reduce excessive bleeding. It is commonly prescribed for heavy menstrual bleeding and may also be used for certain nosebleeds, dental or surgical bleeding, and bleeding after childbirth, as directed by a doctor.
How does it work?
It helps prevent blood clots from breaking down too quickly, allowing bleeding to slow or stop.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with water. Do not take more or use it for longer than recommended. The dose and duration depend on the cause of bleeding and medical advice.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, or stomach discomfort.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about any past or current blood clots, kidney disease, vision problems, or unexplained bleeding. Seek urgent medical help for chest pain, breathing difficulty, painful leg swelling, or changes in vision. People using combined hormonal contraceptives should discuss the increased risk of blood clots with a doctor before use.
