What is it used for?
Terbinafine 250 mg is an oral antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections of the skin, scalp and nails, including ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch and fungal nail infections.
How does it work?
It blocks an enzyme that fungi need to make their protective cell membrane. This stops the growth of the fungus and helps clear the infection.
How to take/use it
Take it by mouth exactly as prescribed, with or without food. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not take more or use it for longer than directed.
Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach upset, diarrhoea, indigestion, rash and changes in taste or smell may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver or kidney disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being taken. Liver problems can rarely occur; seek medical advice promptly for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, unusually pale stools, persistent nausea or severe tiredness. Stop the medicine and seek urgent advice for a severe rash, swelling or breathing difficulty.
