What is it used for?
Telmisartan 40 mg + hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It helps lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of related heart and blood vessel problems.

How does it work?
Telmisartan relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking the action of a hormone that raises blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water, which also lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day. It may be taken with or without food. Do not stop it or change the dose without medical advice. Because it may increase urination, avoid taking it close to bedtime unless advised otherwise.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, tiredness, increased urination, nausea, diarrhoea, and changes in blood salt or potassium levels may occur. Dizziness may be more noticeable when standing up.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, gout, diabetes, dehydration, or previous low sodium or potassium levels. Blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes may need monitoring. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised. Do not use during pregnancy; inform the doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Alcohol may worsen dizziness. Seek medical advice for severe dizziness, fainting, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing.
