What is it used for?
Telmisartan 40 mg is mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It may also be prescribed to help reduce the risk of certain heart and blood-vessel problems in selected high-risk adults.

How does it work?
It blocks the action of a hormone called angiotensin II, which normally narrows blood vessels and raises blood pressure. This helps relax the blood vessels and lower blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not stop treatment without medical advice, even if feeling well.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, low blood pressure, tiredness, diarrhoea, and back pain may occur. Contact a doctor if side effects are severe or persistent.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy; inform the doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, or high potassium levels. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised. Inform the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially lithium, diuretics, or painkillers such as ibuprofen. Rise slowly if dizziness occurs.
