What is it used for?
Tamsulosin is used to relieve urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia), such as difficulty starting urination, weak urine flow, frequent urination and incomplete bladder emptying.
How does it work?
It relaxes the muscles around the prostate and the opening of the bladder, helping urine flow more easily.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the capsule whole with water and do not crush or chew it. Follow the instructions on the medicine label or from the doctor.
Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, runny or blocked nose, and changes in ejaculation may occur.
Precautions
Tamsulosin may cause dizziness or light-headedness, especially when standing up; rise slowly and avoid driving if affected. Tell the doctor before cataract or glaucoma surgery. Inform the doctor about low blood pressure, liver or kidney problems, allergies, or use of medicines for erectile dysfunction or blood pressure. Seek medical help for fainting, severe allergic symptoms or a prolonged painful erection.
