What is it used for?
Tacrolimus 1 mg is mainly used after an organ transplant to help prevent the body from rejecting the transplanted organ. It is prescribed and monitored by a specialist.

How does it work?
It suppresses certain immune system reactions that can attack a transplanted organ.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed by the transplant specialist, at the same time each day. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice unless the doctor advises otherwise. Regular blood tests are needed to check tacrolimus levels, kidney function and other effects.

Common side effects
Trembling, headache, diarrhoea, nausea, high blood pressure, increased blood sugar and kidney problems. It can also increase the risk of infections.

Precautions
Tacrolimus can interact with many medicines, including some antibiotics, antifungals and herbal products. Inform the doctor about all medicines being taken. Seek medical advice for fever, sore throat, unusual bruising, reduced urine, severe headache or confusion. Avoid close contact with people who have infections and do not receive vaccines without medical advice.
