What is it used for?
Cefoperazone with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin and soft tissues, blood, and bile passages. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefoperazone kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps cefoperazone work against bacteria that produce enzymes capable of reducing the effect of some antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given as an injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection and kidney or liver function. Complete the prescribed course and do not self-administer it.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, and pain or redness at the injection site may occur. Changes in liver test results or blood counts can also occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefoperazone, other cephalosporins, penicillins, or related antibiotics. Inform the doctor about liver or kidney disease, bleeding problems, or use of blood-thinning medicines. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for a few days after the last dose. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe skin rash, or persistent or bloody diarrhoea.
