What is it used for?
Prochlorperazine 5 mg is used to relieve nausea and vomiting. It may also be prescribed for vertigo, which can cause dizziness or a spinning sensation.
How does it work?
It blocks certain chemical signals in the brain involved in nausea and vomiting. It also helps reduce abnormal signals that contribute to vertigo.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food, unless advised otherwise. Do not take more than prescribed, and do not stop regular treatment without medical advice.
Common side effects
Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation and difficulty sleeping may occur.
Precautions
It may cause drowsiness or dizziness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until its effects are known. Avoid alcohol, as it can worsen drowsiness. Tell the doctor if there is Parkinson’s disease, glaucoma, epilepsy, prostate or urination problems, heart rhythm problems, or severe liver disease. Seek urgent medical help for severe muscle stiffness, uncontrolled movements, fainting, or a high fever with confusion.
