What is it used for?
Methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation and suppress overactive immune responses in conditions such as severe allergies, asthma, arthritis, autoimmune disorders and certain skin conditions.
How does it work?
It reduces the release of substances that cause inflammation and allergic or immune reactions.
How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed, preferably with food or milk to reduce stomach upset. Do not change the dose or stop treatment suddenly, especially if it has been used for a longer period.
Common side effects
Increased appetite, indigestion, difficulty sleeping, mood changes, facial puffiness, fluid retention and increased blood sugar may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, osteoporosis, glaucoma, mental health problems or an ongoing infection. This medicine can reduce resistance to infections; avoid contact with people who have contagious infections and ask the doctor before receiving vaccines. Seek medical advice for signs of infection or severe mood changes.
