What is it used for?
Sitagliptin 50 mg + metformin 1000 mg is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Sitagliptin helps the body release more insulin after meals and reduces the release of glucagon, which raises blood sugar. Metformin reduces sugar production by the liver and helps the body use insulin more effectively.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, preferably with food to reduce stomach upset. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Swallow the tablet as directed; do not crush or split it unless advised.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, indigestion, headache and cold-like symptoms may occur. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or certain other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, dehydration, severe infection, heart failure, or a history of pancreatitis. Avoid excessive alcohol because it may increase the risk of serious side effects. Kidney function should be checked regularly, and medical advice is needed before contrast-dye scans or surgery. Long-term metformin use may reduce vitamin B12 levels. Seek urgent medical help for severe weakness, breathing difficulty, persistent vomiting, or severe abdominal pain.
