What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is a prescription antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, lungs, skin and urinary tract. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria or prevents them from growing.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed. If it is a dry syrup, prepare and measure it exactly as directed on the label, and shake the suspension well before each use. Complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Do not share or save leftover antibiotic.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache. Skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any previous allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins, penicillins or other antibiotics, and about kidney problems. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling or a severe rash. Contact a doctor if severe, persistent or bloody diarrhoea occurs during or after treatment. Use only under medical supervision during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
