What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, lungs, urinary tract and skin, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. If it is a dispersible tablet, disperse it in water as directed on the product label before taking it. Do not share leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache. Skin rash may also occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporin antibiotics or certain penicillin-type antibiotics unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney disease or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash.
